AC&A WAS THE TECHNICAL AUDITOR FOR THE REPAVING OF THE METROBUS (BRT) ON AU 25 DE MAYO IN BUENOS AIRES

Last November, work began on the resurfacing of the Metrobús BRT that occupies the central lane on the 25 de Mayo Highway in the City of Buenos Aires.

The Metrobús lane has been operational since October 2015; it stretches from Entre Ríos Avenue to the Perito Moreno highway and the Dellepiane highway. It consists of a 7.5-kilometre reversible lane, used exclusively for the public transport service, and on business days it runs towards the downtown area from 6:00 a.m. to noon and then towards the suburbs between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. It is closed at night to carry out maintenance activities such as the aforementioned resurfacing.

AC&A was the firm selected to carry out the Technical Audit of this work, which consisted of milling the existing asphalt and replacing the layer with SMA10 asphalt mixture (Stone Mastic Asphalt 10).

Thanks to its team of specialists backed by more than 20 years of experience in works supervision, AC&A advised AUSA throughout the resurfacing process of this important public transport corridor.

Through the presence on site and the monitoring of tasks, the quality plan was completed in accordance with current regulations and the Technical Specifications required and established for this type of work. The tons of asphalt entered daily at the work were recorded continuously, in addition to controlling the temperature of the mixture, ensuring quality parameters through the analysis of samples taken behind the paver and carrying out the corresponding tests to examine the granulometry of the laid asphalt layer.

Subsequently, core extractions were carried out on the laid asphalt, randomly varying its location, to obtain the theoretical maximum density (Rice Density) corresponding to each batch and determine the thickness and properties of the laid layer. In parallel, at points adjacent to the core extractions, the surface macrotexture was measured.
